Inspirational shots for the Boudoir

The music video for Christina Aguilera's 'aint no other man' has many inspirational shots that we could use during our shoot in the Boudoir. Here are just a few stills to help us get the shot.

The show sequence:

REFLECTION ON MERCADO SHOOT: SAT 27TH SEPT

- Time management was poor -->set impossible targets
- Well organised with equipment/make up/props/costume
- High stress with trying to control actors, people getting hungry/too hot/hungry --> couldnt of prepared for this!
- stuck to movement shots and tight framing
- didn't check wide-screen setting on other camera
- Remember to check time left on tapes before shoots
- we worked well as a group -good communication, regular mini meetings during shoot
- fell behind with paperwork --> too focused on trying to get all the shots/organising people
- not sure if the camerawork was evenly shared? -kept no shot log to record
- lighting not the same in all shots -->may not be good for continuity? some too bright/harsh, others too dull
- rush towards the end of the shoot though finished at the right time
-NO PICTURES!!
-No CU's of people's eyes
-More quirky shots?- do in media block

Goli's Costume

Hey girls...
Here's the costume I bought today at Bruce Grove
It cost £30 - I couldn't get a proper receit though cause it was like a market stall...hope that it will be okay
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
I tried a few skirts on with it, all looked kind of weird. Maybe we could get a black sarong from somewhere (I'm sure someone has one) and tie it how we're going to be tying ours
Also I think it would look a lot better on Goli than it does on me cause her skin tone would suit it more. I look soo pale!!

Hope you like it! It was really difficult to choose on my own!! :S

The dance!

ok girlies, here is the dance routine...I'll give you a special performance tomorrow and we can learn it at mercado maybe? It'll make no sense to you now, it's more just so i can remember and so once you've learnt it you can refer back to it:

Voila!

(from about 1min 20sec)

Up and down up and down
Step forward right, twist back on left , shake bum 3&4
Twist with bum round to right diagonal
Shake shoulders, push left down first
Forward and back forward and back with left foot and punchy arms
Salsa step forward and back, dropping onto right foot
Walk (right) walk (left), place legs out one at a time (right leg first)
Do the swishy hair thing, clockwise direction
Positions 6, 7, Goli 8
Push down with right hand knees facing left, pull up with the left hand, knees facing right (slow)
Gesturing hands as walking backwards (slow)
Arms with beat, Goli spins (we clap)
Arms with beat, Goli wiggles (we clap)
Arms with beat, Goli does Shakira belly (we clap)
Arms with beat Goli shimmies (we clap)
Goli runs forward to jump on bar, while we all shimmy.

Dance Routine

Ok so I'm trying so choreograph a dance routine, which is pretty hard cos there's a really irregular rhythm in the bit of music that we want to dance to. Anyway, I'm looking on youtube now for some dance routines to inspire us a bit...

We already have the moulin rouge one, and we can copy some of Shakira's moooves.

Is it really weird that I fancy the main guy in this video? He's quite odd? oh well, there's some good dancing in this:

And oooh this Christina video is FAB for dancing (i swear its really like our idea, with the boudoir, the dancing on the table - in our case the bar - and the sequin dress and the trumpets, and her dancing with 5 girls? darn) but yeah their dances are wicked!

Ok this is America from West Side Story, possibly one of the best musical numbers in the whole wide world, of course the dancing in this is way too complicated but the ideas that we can draw from it are very strong.

Ok now lets see if i can make up a dance...

Test Shoot and Southall shopping Evaluation

Test shoot on saturday was a success because;

  • In Brick Lane we found lots of great walls with interesting graffti to use as backdrops for the running scenes.
  • We found a perfect wide alley street to do the walking and dancing shots in. Aswell on that street there were some steps for the dancers to be sitting on which look like a backstage to a club.
  • There were chairs/ sofas placed on the streets which we could film shots on.
  • We found a converted Routemaster bus and we asked if we could do filming there for a school project and they said yes. It has been converted to restaurant cafe with sofas and chairs on the top of the bus.
  • When in Brick Lane we found a vintage shop and we bought to sparkley boob tube tops.
  • If we want to film down a more modernised street for contrast, there is a wide street which is empty early evening.
  • The filming on the bus and tube was fine, the lighting was fine though filming on a tube was harder because the floor moved around a lot. If we were to film on the bus/ tube we would want an empty one.
  • We set up Gee's sister room in some decorations to get an idea of what it would look like and the location worked. While filming we came up with some new shot ideas.
  • We practised creating exagerrated and flamboyant make-up, this was successful though the animal make-up was not, white beard not a good idea.
  • We tried experimenting with costumes.

Southall shopping, with my fab driving we managed to get there. We bought:

  • 5 pieces of silky, shimmmery material in different shades.
  • 5 sparkly skirts/ scarves in different shades.
  • Some Bindi.

NB: The first couple of shots we filmed on the test shoot can not be seen properly due to a technical problem, so it is hard to make out what we shot.

Test Shoot - responsibilities

This is just to sum up the responsibilities that we delegated today for the test shoot this weekend:
  • Nina - nothing to collect (because bringing props to shoot) and checking the tripod shoe
  • Gee - collecting the camera, checking the batteries on the shoot
  • Jazzi - Collecting the group folder (need to print out schedules etc.) and checking the tapes
  • Natalie - Collecting the tripod and checking the camera
  • Clare - Collecting the clipboard and whitebpard and checking pen and cloth.

We are meeting at Liverpool St Station at 10.00am on the side where you take the big escalator out through the big glass dome where there is a starbucks stand thing and a cornish pasty co. stall. There is also a bus stop near where bus numbers 8 and 242 should definately be passing. See ya there!!

Target Audience

  • Our Target Audience

Our core target audience would be young (under 30), both boys and girls, who enjoy music styles from different cultures, dancing, partying and watching independent films (our track is taken from the Motion Picture…) A secondary audience could be younger consumers between the ages of 8 and 18, particularly girls who would aspire to be like the star of the video.
  • The tastes and attitudes of our core audience in a media context would particularly be the enjoyment and consumption of films and music from varying cultures; particularly Spanish and South American inspired mediums. On a social level, the core audience would enjoy go out to clubs, dancing and being with friends. In many ways the video would appeal to girls who enjoy going out, as it includes scenes of getting ready, and girls running around having fun.
  • The main function of this style of music is to raise spirits and as a track to dance to – it’s upbeat, catchy, fast-paced and repetitive.
  • The audience could interpret this video to help them construct various identities. The most obvious would be the South American, sexy, carnival-going, Spanish dancing, hunk or mama. However, there are also identities such as being a party-goer socialite, wearing glamorous and theatrical clothing, and being someone that other people admire.
  • Typically this music would be consumed at a club, bar or party to get people dancing, however consumers may also listen to it when getting ready to go out or when trying to raise their mood when working at home!

Treatment

Our music video opens in the boudoir of our main actress, Goli, and her showgirl friends getting ready, applying makeup and putting on glitzy costumes. We are going to use lots of fast paced CUs and ECUs of the girls to show off the eccentric makeup and glitter and to reinforce the themes of glamour and showbiz. We are going to show the girls fussing around Goli - doing her hair and helping her to apply her makeup and intercut this with shots of the boudoir and her dressing room. The boudoir will be decorated with fancy material, fairy lights, cushions and shots of the dressing table with a mirror and in the dressing room we will hang up dancing costumes and other glittery clothes to enhance the idea of her lifestyle as a showgirl/dancer.

As there hardly any lyrics in the song, the video is largely about the music and fitting the action to it. After the boudoir shots (although we will occassionally repeat these shots in the video), the song bursts into full on party music and here we want to cut to a shot of the girls posing in a lift in their full costume, and then we will have shots of them running round streets, past clubs, by graffitti covered walls as well as CUs of feet, hands and glimpses of costume, trying to maintain the focus on Goli. The urban vibe of the streets/alleys is to portray the girls as real, hardworking people and also to show the reality behind showbiz and the coverup of glamour. The glitzy costumes and exaggerated makeup will also be a great contrast to the dirty, grimey streets.

The music softens as the location switches to Mercado - here we really show off Goli as someone that the people in the scene admire. There are clapping sounds in the music, and as Goli walks in, we will have POV shots from both her and the party goers. We will use a variety of shots, including LA, pans, CU and MCU. Everyone in the scene will be accessorissed with something glittery or frilly, i.e. shirt, although we are going to stick to the theme of spanish/latino, by making sure the clothing is suitable and doesn't just look like party outfits. The video here will be made up of shots of Goli dancing on her own, with the girls (also girls and boys) and the people in the bar having fun, dancing, laughing etc. We also want to shoot the bar tenders making cocktails.

There is no particular narrative to the video, so a lot of the shots will be cut together from different locations and interspersed with footage from a carnival and people playing instruments, such as trumpets. We also want to use glitter, sparklers, silhouettes and projections, which again will be cut between shots throughout the video. The overall style of our video is glamour and showbiz, keeping with the spanish/latino theme which will be reflected in our costumes.

The dressing room (all a bit messy!) -we can hang up lots of glittery outfits/feather boas etc.

My other sis's room -just thought we could use a part of it? its quite plain so it'd be easy to decorate..

Sarongs

I know there are probably loads of places to buy sarongs from, but i found these really cheap, plain sarongs on the marks and spencer's website with tassells and they're only £5. These are just an option if anyone is really stuck for a skirt.

Skirts

costumes:

i was looking on the internet to see if i could find any bargains - everythings rubbish and expensive!
there are these skirts on ebay:

They're like £14.99 so maybe just one for Goli? They're pretty cool, but im actually preferring the sarong idea at the mo. Everyone keep their eyes peeled!

Jaz

Costumes

I looked at Spanish/Latino dancewear to see if we could come up with any further ideas for what we can wear and to get a better picture of the style we are looking for. The black tie-up style skirt might be an easier thing to find, like Jazzi suggested sarongs and like the purple bikinis for Golli, if we buy a plain one and add on the jewels with the dangling one in the middle. There are also a few pictures of mens' costumes.

Makeup Ideas

Hey guys, i was searching for pictures of makeup and i found some that are really glittery and extravagant, so we can maybe copy some of the ideas

myspace

I've made a myspace music site so i could get our song onto the internet. Our band is called media2c if your looking it up! i dont no if the song has actually uploaded yet, apparently it takes 24hours...

fitting shots to the music ideas

ok group, sorry i was bored, and i was trying to think of a way we could fit all our shot ideas to the track. so i've been like listening to it over and over and like putting ideas into certain places? i'll list what my ideas are here and explain it properly in the next meeting. they're all our group shot ideas that we've discussed i've just been like finding an order for them if ya get me.
  • So it starts with the fast make-up shots, CUs etc
  • When the big beat kicks in i thought we could have a lift opening (an idea we mentioned ages ago) and as the doors open all the girls are posing in full costume.
  • Now we have the running round the streets and the bus and stuff all going on, interspersed at this point with very short glimpses of trumpets playing, silhouettes of dancers, and maybe flashes of costume and bright colours.
  • Then when the tune dies down and it just the drums (the music goes quite slow) i thought we could have Goli's big entrance (like the filthy gorgeous vid) where we show everyone watching her, CUs of their expressions, the movements are quite slow. But here we could use some voyeuristic shots of Goli, cutting up her body - eyes, tummy, shoes - as if from the POV of the people watching and scrutinising/admiring her. She then begins to dance a bit...
  • And when the tune kicks in again everyone else joins in. Here we have the full on mercado party; loads of alcohol, dancing, people sitting looking cool, cocktails, people having fun.
  • When the guy starts singing and the trumpets are gone i think we should have the choreographed dancing but all cut up. So we can have the girls dancing with goli, cut up with boys and girls doing ricky martin dancing, cut up with goli on her own dancing in her ZONE with projections, cut up with all the girls in their boudoir laughing (rehearsing maybe?). Use slow mo a bit here maybe?
  • When it goes fast again she should run up onto the bar.

And that's where i stopped, there's still like a minute of the song to go though. but after/in between all that we need to have the glitter moments and the colours. there are actually some perfect moments for that but i cant remember where.

Shot Ideas

In today's lesson, as a group we decided on more shot ideas that we could include in our video. As well as deciding on having lots of fast-paced shots that we could cut together, not neccessarily in a particular order, we thought about specific shots that we could shoot.
For example, based on inspiration from Gee's art project - projections over Golli
The girls (us) dancing whilst pouring glitter or sprinkling sparkly paper from above our heads.
We need to test out the 'paint idea' - attatching the camera to a stick/rod and spinning it around whilst filming paint being poured onto paper
Writing/drawing with sparklers
Lots of CUs on facial features, such as eyes/lips to focus on the extravagant and very bright/glittery makeup
Silhouettes of Golli dancing - similar to the Moulin Rouge music video, Lady Marmalade

CU of Golli blowing glitter into the camera

Holiday Findings and Monday's Meeting

oh god how embarassing (the s club video i mean!) oh well, at least ours won't have any tacky gingham shirts in it (ahem jon).

Oh an by the way, who is karina in our possible actresses list? i think i missed that one...

Well, first up we have our star Golnessa Motazedi...

She's agreed to be in the vid and is up for filming etc etc. She definately looks the part as a spanish/latino sexy mama who all the guys want.

In barbados me and Gee visited the Crop Over festival where there were hundreds of people dressed up in sequined bikinis with huge hats and crazy jewels, arms bands and belts. They were pretty crazy and drunk and rather explict at times, but i took some footage anyway which could be useful as out-takes for our video if we do stick with the carnival theme. We also brought back 2 hats which are huge and bright - one is blue with huge feathers coming out of the top and the other is gold with one long orange feather hanging down the back. We can get hold of a load more from the year below and the PE department.

Monday's Meeting

In mondays meeting we discussed what we've acheived over the summer (all of which has been posted) and began to share and decide upon some real shot and sequence ideas.

  • We'd still like to open with the girls getting ready, the shots would be punchy, dramatic and colourful. Goli's costume would be covered by Nina's silk dressing gown, which she'll then fling off to show us her sexay costume.
  • We'd then have a series of travelling shots which could be broken up by glimpses of the bar and the party (like snapshots and close-ups). The girls are travelling on buses, running through the streets, laughing, having fun.
  • When they arrive at Mercado we will use shots similar to the 'Filthy Gorgeous' video by the scissor sisters, POV shots of Goli's entrance, ver crowded, everyone staring at her, moving out the way.
  • In mercado we've decided on some very specific shots: barmen making cocktails, people doing shots, champagne bottle popping, glasses being filled up. We'd also like to use sparklers at some point but that might be with the girls outside, we'd have to test that. We need to have lots of dancing to create a lively party ambience, but the dancing can't look stilted or forced people have to actually be enjoying themselves! we can also have some choreographed moves, all of us dancing behind goli, then we leave her and she dances on her own for a bit everyone watching, she could get up on the bar and then everyone starts dancing again? We could also have a couple of Ricky Martin dancing shots with the girls and boys paired up doing spins and stuff

And that's all for now folks...
