Moulin Rouge
Sorry, just another inspirational video that i remembered showing in the last meeting we had - moulin rouge. Although this video is too sexy (being about prostitutes and all...) and the style is kinda 1800s brothel, i think the colours are so beautiful and rich it'd definitely have to be an inspiration, and the ammount of glamour coming from the girls' hair and make-up is fantastic. Christina expecially looks amazing with all her diamantes and FULL-ON hair. Also like nina mentioned in the meeting we could have some great shots of people putting make-up on us like the Christina scenes. I also think the dance moves at the end prove that 4 (well 5 in our case) girls doing pretty simple dance moves can look great.

Spanish music genre videos - RICKY MARTIN
I looked at two Ricky Martin videos:
'She Bangs'
Although this video is waaay too sexual, i loved the fast paced editing and the great use of close-ups when everyone is dancing particularly in the first verse and chorus - for example the blonde girl shaking her hair, or the low angle shots of girls' bums and legs. Also, at the end when everyone is dancing behind him - i think we could definitely recreate an atmosphere like this at mocado if we got people dancing and shaking their hips! There is a very lively latino feel throughout, and the dancing style would be a great inspiration.
'Livin la vida loca'
This video - again - is too sexual, but the group dancing is fantastic and some of the moves would really fit with the spanish theme we were looking for. I particularly liked the low angles when the girls are dancing, where we can see their sexy heels and fast-moving dancing feet. The colours are all very orangey and gold which creates a great atmosphere. I was in Mocado last night and it's absolutely beautiful and the lighting is very orange and has pink fairy lights everywhere so we could create a similar atmosphere. I also loved the trumpets in this video, it'd be great if we incorporated some instruments as it would make the 'night out' look much more live and exciting. I also thought the extremely fast-paced, flashing, editing at the end would be a great effect for our video as it would allow us to repeat shots to almost 'sum-up' the party, and would make the video look much more professional and againg just more lively and fun.

Inspirational imagery.
SOME BAD NEWS.
Krafty Kut's 'Bass Phenomenon' already has a professional looking music video: another insentive not to use this song. We have researched music videos for both "Takin' it Over" and "Shake Your Coconuts" and neither have music videos.
However, the "Bass Phenomenon" video had never been seen before by any of the group on a website or music channel - therefore it doesn't already have an image atatched to it, and still could be used.
We also discussed in our group about how the artists of "Takin' it Over" are relatively unknown compared to Junior Senior, who have had a Top10 Hit, and so it would be easier to create our own image for this track.

Idea for Music Video
1) Takin' It Over - as the song is Latino/Spanish, we really like the idea of shooting the music video in Mercado, as well as on busses, in market places and possibly grimey streets, as this will create a real contrast between the glamorous lifestyle of sexy/spanish dancers and the reality of it being their job. This will also give us an individual style by having the location in a spanish/mexican bar. The visuals would be very strong - lots of bright colours, fancy costumes with glitter and feathers, and there would also be a narrative: female dancers portrayed as cheeky but sexy (us/Mercado dancers) getting glammed up and their journey to work on busses, walking down streets (through the market) and in the bar dancing/working, and then the video ending with them laughing, holding hands, running, skipping home.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO - we need to check that it's possible to hire out Mercado and how we can get hold of suitable costumes before developing this idea.
2) Shake Your Coconuts - Again, we like the idea for this video being really tongue n cheek, possibly a sleezy guy (1950's British man) with his troop of girls or we can have someone dressed up as a monkey. The video could begin with a lift opening with the man/monkey and the girls walking out of it - immediately grabbing the audience's attention, and similarly to the other idea, the narrative could be of the guy/monkey and his troop of girls' journey. We discussed having lots of beach iconography, such as beach balls, bikinis and hula skirts and shooting some of the video on a bus so it looks like the group are heading for the beach, however they end up going to an indoor beach in London. There would again be lots of dancing, and people playing different instruments.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO - Check locations for indoor beach and search for monkey costumes.
3) Bass Phenomenon - In today's meeting, the ideas for a video for this song were the weakest, as we agreed that the video would need a lot of shots in order to cut to the music. However, we did come up with some ideas, for example Gee thought of having people pie-ing eachother (like in Bugsy Malone) and shooting some of the video in a club using neon lights. As the song is fast paced with a strong beat, we like the idea of people being chased/chasing other people, whilst wearing masks - this could look creepy or not. However, overall this would need to have very precise editing and lots of shots in order to sustain audience attention.
WHAT WE NEED TO DO - as we don't have a particular narrative, if we want to use this song, we need to come up with a strong idea that enables us to portray a unique style.
Jobs to do
Gee - elaborate on an idea for Bass Phenomenon
Jaz - check to see if it's possible to hire out Mercado
Nat - search for costumes
Clare - search for indoor beaches
Nina - think of more ideas for any of the songs

blk feedback!
can you sort out your blog links; it would be good to link the final 3 tracks directly to the blog for example.
plenty of postings from clare - well done, although obviously one from nina and the whole group are clearly keeping a record of what's happening too.
thanks gee and jaz for sorting out the final bit of the britney edit
good idea to give the tracks ratings and to focus your ideas with specific questions that need answering for each
group target: final decision by friday with an idea that can become the main focus of your thinking over the holidays
check the main blog postings - lots of new info on there so have a good read

Ideas for music video
- Use costumes, if we are choose to use a band they can all be dressed up in costumes
- Animal costumes e.g. monkey
- Maybe have the artist/s dressed in costumes walking/running on the streets with ordinary people looking at them
- Could use body/face paints to make the video visually interesting
- If we choose to use a band we could have them playing minature version of their instruments
- Chase scene on the streets of London
- Kids playing adult roles e.g. Policeman
- Breakdancing
- Include some sort of dancing even it is quite simple

Inspirational video
Bloodhound Gang- Bad Touch
We as a group found this video very inspiring. The monkey costumes work really well to create a comical effect and as the band is wearing the same outfit it units them. The video is film outdoors on the streets of Paris and even though it is not a high budget music video it is successful in grabbing audience attention. The charisma and personality of the main singer makes the video successful; he is singing and dancing to the camera so as a viewer we feel involved as he is performing to us.
There is a narrative within this video of them collecting different types of people around Paris including some beautiful women and a dwarf and putting them into a cage. The dancing throughout the video and at the end is simple and not complicated but humorous and entertaining to watch. This something which we could easily do in our video. The lyrics of this video are at times rude but overall funny and this matches the imagery of the video (the actions of the band).
From this video we have been inspired to use costumes and simple dance moves in our video. This video also demonstrated how important the choice of band members are because they need to be able to act and perform in the video. This video is quite simple compared to others but it shows that simplicity can be effective.
